Rules of the road
Kenya drives on the left. Seatbelts are mandatory for all occupants.
- Urban areas: 50 km/h. Highways: up to 100 km/h unless signposted lower.
- Handheld phone use while driving is an offence.
- Carry your licence, the vehicle logbook copy and insurance sticker at all times.
Tolls and parking
The Nairobi Expressway accepts ETC tags and manual lanes. County parking in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu is paid through the county apps or agents — keep the receipt.
If something goes wrong
Call the police on 999 or 112 for emergencies. Report any accident, breakdown or theft through the AutoGo app immediately so the host, insurer and support team can act. Do not agree private settlements at the roadside — it can void the insurance cover.
